December 12th, 2015 I was very interested to hear what author and radio show host, Shoshana Bennett, PhD had to say about today's crisis in postpartum depression. She is the author of 3 books: Children of The Depressed; Pregnant on Prozac and Postpartum Depression For Dummies. (Her interview was sponsored by Nordic Naturals, my favorite fish oil.) Darcy Brunk, DC told us the good news about his recent small study on carpal tunnel syndrome and the wonderful patriot project as well as how energy medicine heals.

December 5th, 2015 Dr. Mark Pedersen is a Naturopathic Doctor and formulator of nutritional supplements. He is also the author of two books, nine patents and many scientific articles. We talked about how herbs made a big impact on his life and why the many drugs derived from plants may not be as safe as the herb that was the original source. We also covered the benefits of the super fruits and minerals that comprise one of my favorite supplements, Fruit of the Spirit. (By the way FOS sponsored his appearance and offered listeners a nice discount.)
There are lots of hidden threats in our environment, so even a person who does virtually everything right (like nutrition genius Bill Sardi) can have something go wrong. We discussed Bill's recent visit to the hospital and his frustrations with the system as well as the actions he took with the aim of keeping a relatively small problem from becoming a much bigger one. Read his entire account. We talked briefly about 2 of his creative formulas, Garligest for heartburn (and other digestive complaints) and Longevinex which I think is powerful for macular degeneration, slowing aging, protection of the heart and a zillion other things as noted in my article.

November 28th, 2015Landscape architect and organic horticulturist Howard Garrett was my guest. We talked about the toxicity of the weed killer Roundup® and its relationship to GMO foods. An important show! Howard is a landscape architect, organic expert, nationally-syndicated radio host, author and a newspaper columnist. His website, DirtDoctor.com is a treasure of resources for solving problems around the yard and home. His impressive titles include:

November 21st,, 2015 If a Healthy by Nature listener learns a tidbit of information that helps turn their health around, I like to think the show might just save a life now and then. This week we might collectively have helped save life as we know it. I did not realize how profoundly what we eat affects global warming. I understood that it is tempting to believe scare tactics that blame ranching as a major cause of greenhouse gases. But, what if going back to more traditional farming methods could save the soil and thereby have as much impact on reducing atmospheric CO2 levels as shutting down power plants and junking all the SUV's? Even more unimaginable - what if properly raising animals for food could be an important part of the solution? And what if the "experts" are wrong and traditional farming methods can feed as many people as short-sighted money-driven factory farming? I'm fascinated with Judith Schwartz's book, Cows Save the Planet: And Other Improbable Ways of Restoring Soil to Heal the Earth.
We also started our annual holiday search for gifts that make the recipient healthier. Eva Navratil of Serenity 2000 offered some great ideas and a temporary 20% discount with the code hbnshow. At the end I suggested pillows from Naturepedic.

November 14th,, 2015 We opened the show with returning guest Hamilton Cabanilla, an educator with Enzymedica. He answered many questions about digestion like these: What makes certain foods more difficult to digest than others? How to keep big meals from making us tired? We also cleared up when and how to take enzymes. Dr. Frank King returned to continue our discussion about the homeopathic approach to common problems. He gave the best explanation of homeopathy that we have heard. I ask about shingles, skin tags and gout. Dr. King is a naturopath, chiropractor and author of The Healing Revolution: Eight Essentials to Awaken Abundant Life, Naturally as well as the founder of KingBio. Note, KingBio is not a sponsor of the show (but I wish they were).

November 7th,, 2015 Pharmacist, Certified Clinical Nutritionist and author, Ross Pelton elaborated on a discussion we started in September about his article on the new female sexual enhancement drug—the pink pill, the so-called "female Viagra". (He also has articleon a new safe method of contraception.) Then, with the holidays approaching, we discussed how to limit the damage of holiday food-related events do to our digestion (e.g. heartburn), immune function and probiotic health. Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics are a great asset in that regard.

October 31st, 2015 I talked with Dr. Frank King, naturopath and chiropractor about his book, The Healing Revolution: Eight Essentials to Awaken Abundant Life, Naturally. We also discussed homeopathic remedies for common problems like the flu, Candida yeast and foggy brain because he is the founder of KingBio and has a radio show. Some time I hope to talk about his North Carolina ranch where grows medicinal fruits, vegetables and herbs and raises bison yak, Watusi (a type of cow, not the band or African natives), and camels.

October 24th, 2015 Jonathan R. Latham, PhD is a plant biologist who early in his career worked with genetically modified plants (often called GMOs for Genetically Modified Organisms). Now he has joined the many scientists concerned with the effect of GMOs on our health and the environment. GMOs are increasingly hidden in our food supply and we need to know why that might be a problem. Dr. Latham also points to proven collusion between the giant agribusiness and chemical industries, supposedly neutral experts, PR companies, and administrators of universities - all in the service of promoting GMOs and the pesticides they support. Dr. Latham is also Executive Director of the Bioscience Research Project. Links discussed during the show: Just Label It.org and about the Non-GMO Certified Seal. At the beginning of the show I discussed the dangers of medications for children.

October 17th, 2015 This was a fun live remote show at the Natural HealthFest Fall Edition. I'd been seeing new research on the reasons we need to make sure we have enough DHEA. So, I arranged to talk to Hugh Woodward of Twist25. He offered listeners a 15% discount in addition to quantity discounts if they gave the discount code Martie. The deal is on only until the end of October. You can also call 1-888-489-4782. I also talked with Lisa Johnson about this nifty water filter that can go in a filter pitcher you already own or they sell it with a pitcher. I think this is more beneficial and environmentally sound than the common ones. Rachel Wilson joined us to talk about Remedy Ice and how you can help improve the way children are treated for health problems.

October 10th, 2015 We'll talk about natural approaches to aches, pains and inflammation with John Young, MD who practices integrative medicine in the Tampa / Clearwater / St. Pete area. He is also the author of the book, Beyond Treatment about building health from the cellular level up. Then Daniel Crisafi, PhD, a naturopathic consultant in Montreal, Canada will tell us about his book, Syndrome S - How to Avoid, Manage, and Reverse the Negative Health Effects of Stress.
